Well, originally, I was going to write up a diatribe about Trinity. But then it got removed. So… Hooray for Trinity being removed!

That said, I’m also going to do my best to blog at least on a bi-weekly basis. So here’s where I attempt to do so, as of today. At least I’ve been on a consistent monthly schedule up to now, though?

Anyhow, here’s some thoughts for the new PTR build for Holy Priests (so I won’t cover Discipline; I’m not a fan of Discipline, don’t play Discipline, and am not altogether too knowledgeable about Discipline).

Inner Fire no longer has a mana cost. This is cool, but also kind of odd at the same time. Without it having charges anymore, and with the fact that it’s not able to be dispelled, why not give this benefit to all other casters that have armor spells? Currently, Water Shield and Lightning Shield also do not costs mana, but Demon Armor, Fel Armor, Mage Armor, Frost Armor and Molten Armor all still cost mana. Effectively, they provide some of the same benefits that Inner Fire does, in some cases. I’m not at all complaining, it’s definitely a nice quality of life change, but it just doesn’t make sense.

Borrowed Time is now a Tier 2 talent, down from Tier 4. An interesting change, but a good one nonetheless. This definitely helps bring a lot to the table for Holy in terms of throughput. While I’ll be sad to see the loss of Soul Warding finally available to Holy priests, I definitely think this makes up for it, especially when working in tandem with Serendipity. It definitely gives Holy a little more breathing room, especially when you have those two stacks of Serendipity, and need to either cast a Greater Heal on the tank (assuming no Weakened Soul debuff from a Discipline priest), or a Prayer of Healing. Tack it onto either the Heal or Prayer of Healing State of Mind from your Chakra, and you’re pretty set, if you ask me. Overall, I think this will see more use in 10-mans, but I can see its value for 25-mans as well for the raid healing with Prayer of Healing, Divine Hymn, or even Hymn of Hope. Currently on live, I usually bubble myself before using either of my Hymns anyway.

Soul Warding is now a Tier 4 talent, up from Tier 2. This is not a terrible change, especially given access to Borrowed Time for Holy. Still, I’m not entirely sure I care too much for Inner Sanctum, though I suppose it’s so low in the tree to allow Holy and Shadow access for a PvP spec. Not much else to say here.

Greater Heal now costs 29% of base mana, down from 32% of base mana. This can never be a bad thing.

Revelations – Holy Word: Sanctuary (Prayer of Healing) effect now lasts 18 sec, up from 15 sec. Free healing is free healing? Not complaining here.

Blessed Resilience is now a Tier 6 talent, up from Tier 5. To be quite honest, I don’t even know why this talent still exists. Even trying to come up with a PvP Holy spec, Borrowed Time or Inner Sanctum still seems to outweigh Blessed Resilience.

Surge of Light is now a Tier 2 talent, down from Tier 3. This is a good change overall. It allows for Discipline to get some more single-target throughput, and also still helps with Holy, especially getting Serendipity stacks. However, I do have a couple of things I would like to see change:

1. Raise the proc chance to at least 10%, if not as much as 15%. This assists with both Holy and Discipline throughput overall. Secondly, 6% just seems … a strange number, and not a very good proc rate. I don’t know how things are going to work out in Cataclysm, but if it remains at 6%, I hope that it’s a good enough percentage to be a worthwhile talent.

2. Also have a chance to reset the cooldown on Holy Fire, and also have it be instant cast and cost no mana. This would make it an excellent leveling talent as well. I was kind of surprised to see Smite removed from the proc after it’s been there so long, and we really have nothing that truly buffs Holy Fire or promotes its usage outside of Divine Fury. It’s a really fun spell, and I’d love to see more talents that interact with this, and possibly even a glyph to increase its duration or decrease the cooldown to be more in line with Glyph of Smite.

Trinity is gone. All I have to say is, THANK THE GODS.

Tome of Light (Tier 4) *New* – Reduces the cooldown of your Holy Word spells by 15/30%. This is actually a huge bonus to our new Holy Word: Chastise that we get for specializing into Holy. This is especially good for any Chakra state (Smite aside, as it’s a damaging spell without the Chakra state active).

All in all, I’m actually really liking the updates to the build. Now I just have to find keybinds for everything… Ugh.
