Don’t Be Offended for Me

All right, so I’m mostly going to put out there what my opinions are on certain subjects right now. I am taking what’s probably a more controversial standpoint on this, but a discussion via Twitter is going to be anything but helpful. That said, I am going to respect people’s opinions, whether they are the same as mine, or they are different. If you cannot manage to read this post without looking at things from a rational standpoint, and you cannot respond as an adult, I would ask that you do not respond to begin with.

I don’t want to make this post a diatribe about how other people are wrong. But I have been called selfish, I have been told I don’t know what I’m talking about, and I’ve been linked this image, as if it’s supposed to show how my opinion is “wrong.” What I will say is that I hate political correctness. And yes, I do think a large majority of people need to get over themselves and get a thicker skin. However, there are going to be people that use words offensively, and there are going to be times where context shows that the offense is very definitely meant to hurt someone emotionally. What I want to dispel is this apparent belief that I can’t see that.

I do want to warn you there is a lot of stream of consciousness in here. But if you will read the entire post before scrolling down to the “Leave Comment” box, I would be greatly appreciative of this.

Garrosh, Cairne and “Murder”

A lot of news – and I do mean A LOT of news – just released regarding the Mists of Pandaria expansion for World of Warcraft today. Among that news was the decision of the end boss for the expansion – one Garrosh Hellscream. Everyone loves to hate this guy, myself included. At the prompting of Rades, I’m posting about my opinion on the whole Garrosh/Cairne thing. I would like to note that I am not a huge lore buff, but it does interest me. And the ideas about Garrosh that are constantly flying around actually are a pet peeve to me. Mostly because there are people on the Internet that are WRONG. Also, many thanks to Rades for helping me out with some information that I was initially missing!

Garrosh Hellscream

Among players and NPCs both, there is a feeling of resentment toward Garrosh as the new Warchief that Thrall had chosen to take place in the interim while dealing with the World Pillar and Cho’gall, then Ragnaros, then Deathwing himself. As most people are aware, there’s been a lot of internal strife in the Horde – this is most notable when you visit the troll, forsaken or worgen starting zones, as Vol’jin and Sylvanas are the ones most unhappy about Garrosh. Although I don’t know his official stance, I imagine Baine is rather on the fence about what happened. In the same regard, the player base has splintered as well. Those that want Vol’jin as Warchief, those for Baine, those for Sylvanas, the Garrosh loyalists, the Thrall loyalists, and everyone else (the Basic Campfire crowd). So, let’s take a quick step back and look at the events leading up to this, and some speculation for what happens between now and the Siege of Orgrimmar.

Handling Guild Drama

So, these last couple months have been just loads of stress outside of gaming, but also just some grand annoyances while in gaming, as well.  A lot of it relates to some guild drama in both Rift and WoW.  Quite frankly, I’m sick of it.  The backbiting, the name-calling, the downright immaturity of it all.  It would be one thing if people that are adults would take the time to act like the adults they are.  Personally, I try to avoid conflict, and prefer to have civil discussion, but even I am human and have had my part in these issues.  I’m sure as shit not infallible.

Bitch Slap: Someone's going to get it.

That said, guild drama sucks, especially when it leads to people either quitting or getting kick from a guild.  I mean, I get that there are going to be personality conflicts and whatnot, but when there are people that are supposed to be the ones you look up to and respect looking down on, condescending to, or outright being hateful toward other members of the guild, how is that supposed to reflect on the guild to new guild members?  Now, I don’t expect people to maintain civility 100% of the time, but recent weeks have proven to be an exercise in sheer frustration.
