Static Mana Regen vs. Int-Based Regen

So, I mentioned in my last post that one of my two major concerns about healing as a holy priest or restoration shaman was reliance on Test of Faith and Deep Healing – and how these can have unintended consequences on overall healing performance, and how raid encounters are going to be set up in the future. My other biggest concern is mana regeneration. Currently, holy priests and restoration shaman are the only two healers that don’t have some sort of Intellect-based mana regeneration. For discipline, this would be Rapture, and Archangel for Atonement priests; for paladins, Divine Plea; and for druids, Revitalize. This should go without saying, but also Arcane Torrent for any Blood Elves.

In essence, this is again an observational post – not something to be taken at face value, but something that is a concern for later on. Moreover, I’ll probably delve into other somewhat tangential things such as Mana Tide Totem, and how this can affect a restoration shaman’s gearing choices. There’s actually a specific post over at Totem Forest that explains that a bit more in detail. Moreover, shaman do have the otion of Telluric Currents, which is a huge mana gain, too – so holy priests are still kind of left in the dust here.

In Defense of Chakra

I have been reading through the healing forums a lot in the last few days, and I’ve come to the conclusion that Chakra is highly misunderstood. Because of this, people tend to view Chakra as a be-all, end-all, if-you’re-not-in-the-right-Chakra-the-raid-wipes type of mechanic. The problem with that is, it’s a false assumption, for a few reasons. But moreover, Chakra’s mechanic as it is right now is fine. There have been several suggestions on how to “improve” it, from changing it to stances, to changing it to an Eclipse-like mechanic, to changing it to be similar to Death Knight presences. Perhaps I’m one of the few people that think it’s actually fine the way it is.

Patch 4.0, hardmodes and what comes in Cataclysm

So I’m looking at talent trees and deciding how I want to spec. Well, for shadow, anyway. I’m really disappointed that Silence is never going to be available in a PvE-oriented build, as long as Improved Mind Blast is encouraged so much, even though it clearly has PvP connotations, with the reduced healing aspect. Technically, you can afford all the other PvE talents while still getting Improved Psychic Scream and Silence. To be truthful, I would much rather have Silence and Psychic Horror swap places in the talent tree; Silence is a much better PvE utility than Psychic Horror, as it gives Shadow Priests an on-demand interrupt, along with rogues, mages, warlocks with felhunters, retribution paladins, warriors, death knights, feral druids and marksmanship hunters. I suppose on the other hand Psychic Horror’s disarm is handy alongside Dismantle and Disarm, but… how much stuff is actually able to be disarmed in raids? Trash? Perhaps. Bosses? Likely not.
